Our Learn to Play program is for you!

Focus: Skating, Stick handling, and Passing. We also play cross ice games the last practice, so the kids can get a feel for what it is like to play in a game.
 
Age: 5-12
Cost: $65 per session
Requirements:
1. Full Equipment (Available to rent from GBICHA)
2. Typically follows some learn to skate sessions

Learn To Skate Coaching Opportunity!

The youth of the Battle Creek community need your help. If you are looking for a job opportunity, the Learn-To-Skate (LTS) Head Coach position may be right for you!

GBCIHA is looking for a lively person who would be free on Monday and Wednesday evenings for about 2 hours each day.
 
Job Description: • The Learn to Skate Head Coach is responsible for teaching basic skating skills to children, ages 3 and up.  • They must work very well with primary ages, have the ability to monitor the teaching skills and styles of their assistant instructors, and they must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with the participants’ parents.  • The LTS Head Coach is required to ensure the program is delivered as intended by the Greater Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association and that it meets and exceeds client standards.  • The LTS Head Coach must take responsibility for all happenings within a session. 
 
Typical Duties and Responsibilities: • Arrive early to set up training materials and greet participants. • Direct the start of the warm-up skate, • Lead the class through warm-up, basic skating activities and games. • Review, use  and have knowledge of  USA Hockey LTS curriculum, • Supervise, allocate, and participate in the work of assistant instructors. • Communicate with participants and the customer to ensure satisfaction.
 
Qualifications: • Preferred experience as a coach or instructor in sport programs designed for children. • Must be able to skate. • Able to present themselves professionally and communicate appropriately with all customers and staff members. • Strong planning and time management skills. • Must be physically able to skate for 50 minutes continuously. • Able to work and train in cold on-ice conditions.
